A Brief History of the Buick GNX
In the 1980s, Buick was known for luxury, but the brand shocked the automotive world with the Grand National, a high-performance version of the Regal.

By 1987, Buick took it one step further with the GNX, partnering with McLaren Performance Technologies to create a true performance monster. With a turbocharged 3.8L V6 producing a factory-rated 276 horsepower (though real-world figures were closer to 300 hp), the GNX could launch from 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds—quicker than a Ferrari Testarossa.

Only 547 units were produced, making the GNX an ultra-rare gem among American muscle cars. Its sinister all-black appearance, wide fender flares, and iconic badging make it one of the most recognizable and sought-after collector cars today.
The Buick GNX’s Cultural Impact
Beyond its performance, the GNX has cemented itself in pop culture. It has appeared in video games, movies, and most recently, in the music industry.

Kendrick Lamar, one of hip-hop’s most influential artists, named his latest album GNX after this legendary car, using it as a symbol of power, resilience, and nostalgia.
